About the Kedarkantha
If you’re looking for a winter trekking adventure, Kedarkantha is the place to be! The fresh snowfall and bitterly cold days of December through mid-February make for an unforgettable experience. However, be warned that nights can be brutally cold, while days offer little relief. With the proper clothing, though, the winter trek can be a fantastic experience. And if you’re lucky, you’ll enjoy it without too many other people. Remember that sometimes the trail might be blocked by snowfall during peak winter months, but that’s all part of the fun! You’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of a blanket of snow over pine trees creating a winter wonderland.
The Kedarkantha trek is lovely during the Spring season. You won’t find an assault of snow as you might have in the previous winter months, but rather pleasant weather that is perfect for trekking. The Rhododendrons will bloom, and the meadows will be a carpet of green, making it a feast for the eyes wherever you turn.
With longer days and brighter nights, it’s the perfect time to explore all that this stunning trek has to offer. In terms of weather, March is still quite cold at night but begins to warm up during the day, making it a comfortable time to trek. April and May are warmer months, but with occasional rain showers. However, the views more than make up for any inconvenience caused by the rain.
The Kedarkantha trek is also possible during the monsoon months, but it’s not recommended for those who are looking for a peaceful and quiet getaway. The rains can cause landslides, making the trail dangerous in some places. In addition, the meadows and forests will be wet and muddy, making for a less-than-ideal trekking experience. However, if you’re up for an adventure and don’t mind getting a little dirty, then monsoon might be the perfect time for you! The greenery will be luscious, and you’ll have the trail to yourself since most people avoid trekking during this time.
Autumn is one of the best times to visit the Kedarkantha Trek. The clear skies and the weather are calm and pleasant, making for ideal trekking conditions. The days get shorter as October approaches, so be sure to start your trek early in the month to make the most of the daylight. The views during this time are incredible, with the leaves turning a beautiful shade of red and yellow. Some areas may be dry and dusty, but the colours make up for it! You’ll also have the bonus of avoiding the crowds that flock to Kedarkantha during peak season.
As you can see, there is no best time to visit the Kedarkantha Trek. It depends on your preferences and what you’re looking for in a trekking adventure. With that said, Kedarkantha is famous for being a winter trekking destination. So, winter is the best time if you want to enjoy the snow-covered landscape and don’t mind the cold temperatures. However, it can get crowded in the peak season to the extent that it sucks all the fun out of the trek.
If you want to avoid the crowds and still enjoy the beautiful scenery, then I would suggest March to May or September to November. These are the shoulder seasons, so you’ll find smaller crowds and more manageable weather conditions. Remember that the monsoon season (June to August) can be dangerous due to landslides, so it’s best to avoid trekking during this time.
No matter when you choose to visit, Kedarkantha’s views will surely take your breath away!
